Internet explorer is a core component of Windows XP used for browsing web sites and also files and folders in the computer. It was not wise for Microsoft to integrate the IE browser to the main module of Windows, since a damaged IE would mean a damaged Windows. It is actually advisable to use an alternate web browser such as NetScape or Mozilla rather than using IE.
To repair IE in Win XP:
Hit start, then run.
In the open box, type sfc/scannow then hit ok.
Note however that it may request for the win xp cd.
